Admissions Process
Thacher's admissions process is designed to help you and the school become better acquainted. The following steps will facilitate an understanding of Thacher and its commitment to the Montessori system of education.
1. Learn About Us
- Please read the Our School and Our Program sections of this website
- Come to an Open House
- Request a brochure through our Admission Inquiry Form
2. Parent/Guardian Meeting with Admissions
- A required part of our application process is a meeting with Deba Palma, Director of Admissions, and/or Fred Catlin, Head of School, for a tour with classroom observations. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the Montessori philosophy and the educational process at Thacher.
- Private appointments are accepted Tuesdays through Fridays at 9:00 or 10:00 a.m., October 19, 2011 through February 14, 2012.
- Please contact our Admissions Department to schedule your tour.

3. Enrollment Application
- Applications and a $50 application fee per child are due no later than Tuesday, January 31, 2012.
- The application will be considered complete after parents/guardians have observed in the classrooms, the student has visited, and we have received your application and fee. For children with prior school experience, we also require a completed teacher evaluation form. (We will provide you with the appropriate evaluation form upon receiving your application.)
- Enrollment Application can be downloaded here.
4. Student Visit
- After meeting with the Director of Admissions and/or Head of School and your application is received, your child’s visit will be scheduled. The purpose of this visit is for Thacher guides (teachers) to interact with prospective students to help us determine if Thacher is the best environment for your family.
- Children’s House applicants visit with guides in small groups while their parents talk with faculty. The school is closed on Thursday, February 16, 2012 for this interview day.
- Applicants for the Elementary and Adolescent Programs spend one or two entire days in a classroom and work individually with a guide. This will give your child the opportunity to work with other students and
experience a typical day at Thacher.
5. Acceptance
- Decision letters are mailed on March 9, 2012 for entry in September 2012.
- We respectfully request your response no later than April 10, 2012..
