Summer Programs 2019

The end of the school year means the beginning of summer fun!

Thacher offers a range of summer programs for toddlers through adolescents. To keep the learning momentum going, we have summer programs for all ages.

Toddlers & Children’s House students can sign up for half- or full-day care.
For children aged 2.5 to 6, our eight-week Children’s House program provides a balance between Montessori learning and outdoor adventures/group activities.
Elementary and adolescent students can find new ways of expressing themselves through music and drama.
Full-day – 8:30 – 3:00 | Half-day – 8:30 – 11:30 (Before and after care available 7:30 – 8:30 | 3:00 – 5:00)

Todder Summer Program

Toddlers will explore and grow in an environment designed to encourage the development of independence and skills that prepare them for a lifetime of learning.
Weekly sessions run from June 24 to August 16.

(open to all toddlers 18* to 36 months)

Children's House Summer Program

The Children’s House Summer Program is designed for children entering (or are already in) a Montessori primary program in the fall. Ages 2.5 - 6. Each session is Montessori based and includes outdoor adventures and group activities.

June 24 - June 28	Step into Summer (Session full) Get ready to start the season of summer with fun outdoor activities, arts, and crafts, gardening and water play!
July 1 - July 5 (closed July 4)	Wonderful World of Insects Learn all about the bees, butterflies, earthworms, and spiders during this week of outdoor insect adventure.
July 8 - July 12	On the Farm (Session Full) Back by popular demand, children will be able to participate in Thacher’s Community Garden, make bread, and have a visit from baby farm animals later in the week.
July 15 - July 19	Splish Splash (Session Full) Children will be able to explore the wonders of water with activities such as ice melt, sink and float, and waves! Everyone will stay cool in the middle of the summer with this fun-filled week.
July 22 - July 26	The Ocean (Session Full) Dive into learning about life under the sea as we explore the earth’s oceans and the creatures that live there.
July 29 - August 2	Dance to the Music (Session full) Step to the beat as we learn about music throughout the ages while exploring different musical instruments, rhythm, and songs.
August 5 - August 9	Artistic Expression This is a week of creativity and artistic expression. Children will learn different art techniques through the use of paint, pastels, clay, and much more.
August 12 - August 16	Welcome to Thacher As the summer draws to a close, this week will be a wonderful transition to the 2019-2020 school year as your children will have an opportunity to explore Montessori materials and familiarize themselves with the classroom environment.

Drama Camp

July 1 - July 19 (Weekly or three-week session) - In this drama and arts-based program, children choose the play that they wish to perform. They will edit, rehearse, create props and sets, and act in a final production. For students entering 1st through 8th grade.

Band Camp

July 22 - August 9 (Weekly sessions) - Children will participate in group activities that focus on the fundamentals of music. They will learn music appropriate to their abilities by engaging in small, mixed-age ensembles. Students will learn to play one song and perform at the end of the week. This camp is for students entering 3rd through 8th grade.

Weekly Programs

Weekly camps are for students entering 1st through 8th grade.

Dates	Details
June 24 - June 28	Hiking Hikers will explore the Blue Hills and nearby Wakefield Estate. Each participant will create a scrapbook of their adventures.
July 22 - July 26	Baking Children will learn how to make different types of bread, cookies, muffins, and cakes. Pies with fresh fruit and homemade pie crusts are also on the menu. Bon Appetit!
July 29 - August 2	Nature Exploration Campers will be introduced to animal signs, tracking, plant identification, and the garden cycle. Students will visit the Wakefield Estate, Blue Hills, and Thacher's Community Garden.
August 5 - August 9	Ceramics Learn how to create ceramics from clay. Campers will also paint ready-made bisque mugs or plates. Bring a swimsuit or a change of clothes for water games in the afternoon!
August 12 - August 16	Artistic Expressions Explore the world of art through different mediums and methods. Art expression through movement, yoga, painting, and tie-dye are just a few examples of this fun-filled week.
